After years of resisting of writing a sequel for the major 90’s blockbuster hit, Independence Day, finally has writer-producer Dean Devlin behind and excited about the development of Independence Day 2.
Devlin stated: “I can tell you that Roland [the director] and I have been working together for the first time in 11 years and we’re very excited about the idea of doing it. Whether or not we can make this happen, if we can get all the pieces to come together, that’s gonna be challenging. But creatively, for the very first time since we did the original, I feel we have a worthy concept, a worthy path to go.”
The ball could really get the ball rolling with the sequel and triquel, but the budget is already a bill the studio isn’t willing pay with Will Smith demanding north of $50 million.
The franchise will be directed by writer-director Roland Emmerich.
