WILL SMITH IS READY TO MAKE A COMEBACK

image

Seeing how we’ve actually only written two articles about Will Smith in our entire blog history, it only makes sense that we’re not the only ones to notice Smith’s career has been lackluster the last few years.

According to Cinemablend:

That being said Smith has all of a sudden added three new films to his slate:

  • Focus. We’re already reported on it. Read here.
  • “The Accountant” will star Smith as an assassin who poses as an… well, an accountant.
  • The American Can stars Smith as a Gulf War veteran, John Keller, who saves 244 people during Hurricane Katrina.
The Nut Job has recently received US distribution from Open Road Films. Glad to see major distribution from other entities than DreamsWorks Animations and Pixar.
“Featuring the voice talents of Liam Neeson, Katherine Heigl, Will Arnett, Brendan Fraser, Stephen Lang,Sarah Gadon and Jeff Dunham, The Nut Jobis an action-packed comedy in fictional Oakton that follows the travails of Surly (voiced by Will Arnett), a mischievous squirrel, and his rat friend Buddy, who plan a nut store heist of outrageous proportions and unwittingly find themselves embroiled in a much more complicated and hilarious adventure.” — movieweb
It sounds really cute - glad it got distro

BEN AFFLECK IT OUT. WILL SMITH IS IN. SO, KIRSTEN STEWART PEACED OUT
Hollywood royalty, Ben Affleck, has recently dropped up out of the upcoming Focus feature film. The film “follows a veteran con man… who takes an inexperienced grifter under his wing, before falling for her. Years later, they reunite and begin to complicate each others lives.” — movieweb.
The dashing con man was originally going to be played by Ben Affleck, but now Will Smith has the con artist role and Kristen Stewart has decided that she no longer wants to play the “inexperienced grifter” due to the age difference between her and Smith.
To us that sounds kinda suspect. Smith and Affleck are only 4 years apart. So, why wasn’t Affleck too old? Not quite sure that Stewart and Smith would have good chemistry on the big screen, but it definitely sounds interesting. Love to see them give it a try though. Just sounds interesting. Bah, doesn’t matter though, since K-Stew has left the production.

DIRECTOR BEEF ALERT: BAY vs DEL TORO

image

The recent CinemaCon has released a gaggle of new movie news that has fans going bonkers. Not that all the movie news hasn’t been interesting enough, but there’s a beef a brewin’ between Michael Bay and Guillermo del Toro

Michael Bay has recently stated that other directors have attempted to copycat his successful robot franchise, Transformers, with other films that apparently pale in comparison e.g. Real Steel and Battleship. Although, it hasn’t been confirmed which films Michael Bay is specifically referring to, but it’s clear that he’s managed to piss off Guillermo del Toro.

del Toro has his own big budget robot flick coming out, Pacific Rim, and here’s what he had to say about Bay’s comments:

Did del Toro really just say “my robot is bigger than your robot”? Really? Whatever. We’re always down for a good beef!

CAN YOU SMELL HOW HOT ‘IRON MAN 3’ IS? JAPAN WILL.
We don’t know about you  guys, but we’re a little bit jealous that Japan is going to be bringing Iron Man 3 in 4D style. That’s f’ing right. Japanese movie goers will be in theaters with titling seats, fog machines, a light show, and everything else that a 4D movie goer could imagine.
However, if Japan’s movie goers want to experience Iron Man 3 4D style, they’re going to have to shell out the big buck-a-roos. The average ticket price in Japan is $12.50, but these 4D tickets will cost movie goers about $10-$13 buck-a-roos more.
The 4D version will open 1st, and then the regular ol’ 2D version will be released two weeks after.

We’re extremely jealous. What do you guys think?

THE CROODS IS GETTING A 2ND TIME AROUND!
The Croods absolutely killed in the box office this year; therefore, DreamWorks Animation has gone ahead and announced there will be sequel. Domestically, The Croods grossed $144 milli and $242 milli internationally. The Croods sequel will be released in 2016, and it looks good for the entire original cast to reprise their roles.

ALRIGHT, SO ‘IRON MAN’ IS NOW ‘JAMES BOND’

With RDJ hinting at him moving on from the man of iron once he clocks in at the big ol’ 50, it has taken the industry no time at all to throw names out there for possible male leads to play “Iron Man.” Apparently, they plan on recasting the franchise “James Bond” style by finding male leads with their own unique quality to fill in the iron shoes.

As of now this is who this is who movieweb has thrown out there:

imageTimothy Olyphant is in no need for a comeback, but he has never made his mark on the big screen quite the way he has on television. After several supporting roles in various movies of the early 2000s, the actor proved himself as a major presence playing the sheriff of Deadwood. A few years later, he took that same swagger and cocksureness to the role of Raylan Givens on Justified, which has grown beyond its cult audience to become a bonafide cultural hit. Timothy Olyphant is able to bring the right amount of lovability to a role, while still being a smarmy bastard when he needs to be. And he has the right look. He’s our number one pick for Tony Stark. And he’s loved by pretty much every man and woman on the planet. Show us someone who doesn’t like Timothy Olyphant, and we’ll show you a real (explicative).

imageHe looks the most like Tony Stark out of our current crop of high profile actors who might be considered for the role. He looks more like Tony Stark than Robert Downey Jr.. And he, too, has proven himself very capable of playing cocky without becoming too unlikable. While Leonardo DiCaprio is in no need of a hit movie or a comeback, the actor has yet to play a superhero, or become part of the Disney family, which most of his peers have. If he wanted to take part in the genre, there wouldn’t be a better role for him. And he’s likely Disney’s top choice, too. This franchise is his for the taking, but as someone who actively seeks out challenging and artistic films, he might find the role of a playboy billionaire who plays with robots beneath him. Iron Man wants and needs someone like Leonardo DiCaprio, but is the role below his pay grade at this point?

imageLike Timothy OlyphantJon Hamm has made a name for himself on TV, starring in the hit drama Mad Men, but he’s never taken that Don Drapper swagger to the big screen. The role of Iron Man would serve to bring his gentlemanly demeanor and arrogant attitude to a wider demographic. With slicked back hair and a pencil thin mustache, he would serve to bring a more retro quality to the character, harkening back to Stark’s roots as a hero of the 60s. He also looks good swinging a glass of Scotch at his side, and might be one of the few actors able to pull off the alcoholism aspects of Tony Stark in an intelligent, humorous manner that won’t weight the character down and scare him away from kids. He has a dad-like quality that will serve the character well. Though, he might be a little too sexy for the role of Iron Man. That could turn fanboys away.

imageColin Farrell probably has the most in common with Robert Downey Jr. He’s no stranger to substance abuse, and has been struggling to make it in Hollywood for years. Despite headlining quite a few mainstream movies, he’s never had the hit his talent promises, nor has he exactly become a household name. He needs a big movie like Iron Man at this point in his career, and he’s just the right age. He’s done his best work in quirky independent crime comedies, and the character of Tony Stark is capable of bringing those same attributes into a superhero movie. Colin Farrell might be an unconventional choice, but Marvel’s choices seem to be unconventional most of the time. He’d have to lose his Irish brogue, which is never fun, but the man can pull off a mean moustache, and he’s good with a quick quip. He also knows how to rock cocky yet lovable, which is probably the main attribute a casting director will look for when trying to fill the shoes of Tony Stark.

imageThis is Marvel thinking way outside the box. Norman Reedus had a large cult following with the film Boondock Saints before becoming everyone’s favorite zombie slayer on The Walking Dead. He is beloved by millions of fanboys, as well as moms and kids alike. Taking on Iron Man might push him to the next level. Though, the actor hasn’t proven he can do comedy just yet. That might be okay. Maybe we want someone who brings a slightly different take to the character than Robert Downey Jr.. Maybe this Tony Stark is a little more serious. A little less assured of himself. He is more flawed. Norman Reedus has the ability to play to the strengths of the character, while also bringing in certain elements that would stand him apart from the crowd. People are ready to see him take on a bigger role. Do you think this one would serve him well? His on-screen brother Michael Rooker just landed a lead role in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Maybe Norman’s next in line…Or then again, maybe Submariner is more his speed.

‘21 JUMP STREET’ IS CONFIRMED FOR A SEQUEL

After completely blowing up the box office in 2012, 21 Jump Street, has been green lit for a sequel. So far, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, are the only two attached to the production. As the orignal writers are currently busy with another project, which could lead to them not being available to pen the next script that Sony Pictures hopes to box office gold as well.

‘JUPITER ASCENDING’ WILL KICK OFF PRODUCTION IN LODON MATE

Filming is underway on Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Village Roadshow Pictures’ Jupiter Ascending, an original science fiction epic adventure from filmmakersLana and Andy WachowskiChanning Tatum and Mila Kunis star in the film, which began shooting at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on April 2, 2013.

THE NEVER ENDING ‘FAST & FURIOUS’ FRANCHISE REVEALS ITS NEXT RELEASE DATE!

Although, Fast & Furious 7 doesn’t have an official director yet, it appears that the film has an official release date for July 11, 2014. Currently, James Wan is negotiating with the studio about stepping up as the director, since Justin Lin has stepped because he felt production was being rushed.
